Hingolgadh Nature Education Sanctuary

About the Sanctuary:

The Hingolgadh Nature Education Sanctuary, situated near Rajkot city, is a small yet vital wildlife sanctuary. Encircled by arid terrain, it serves as a refuge for a diverse range of animals, including Chinkara, blue bull, and numerous resident and migratory bird species. Established as a reserved forest in 1980, the sanctuary spans 654 square kilometers.

Despite its dry surroundings, Hingolgadh is a lush oasis during the monsoon season, with a verdant green cover that contrasts sharply with the barren landscape. The sanctuary is not only a haven for wildlife but also a hub for education and recreation. Managed by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, it hosts 50-100 Nature Education Camps annually during the monsoon. These camps are designed for school children, focusing on wildlife conservation and ecosystem awareness. Visitors can also enjoy nature walks and trekking opportunities, immersing themselves in the sanctuary’s natural beauty.

The sanctuary holds historical significance as well, featuring several ancient temples and monuments. Notably, the Hingolgarh Fort, dating back to the 15th century, offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area and is a popular photography spot.

Overall, Hingolgadh Nature Education Sanctuary is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. Its unique ecosystem, educational programs, and historical attractions make it an important site for conservation and a rewarding destination for those interested in exploring and preserving the environment.
